What a week!
On Super Bowl Sunday, our Firefighters and Officers played an active role during this nationally-visible mutual aid disaster. Hats off to all of the people who responded, and continue to work the scene even today.
Teamwork and bravery saved even more widespread loss of life and personal injury.
It's just one example of what happens with teamwork, hard work, dedication and cooperation.
We are all sorry for the loss of life and the injured. We are thankful ... it could have been much worse.
Another job well done.
“Firemen are going to get killed. When they join the department they face that fact. When a man becomes a fireman his greatest act of bravery has been accomplished. What he does after that is all in the line of work. They were not thinking of getting killed when they went where death lurked. They went there to put the fire out, and got killed. Firefighters do not regard themselves as heroes because they do what the business requires.”
Chief Edward F. Croker - Irish born American Firefighter Chief of Department, FDNY (1899-1911),
